Replies not placed in correct order

[ Edited ]

This is really frustrating - If you reply to a reply in a large post, your reply gets sent to the middle of the thread (to where the post you replied to is), instead of at the end of the thread where it would normally go.

This makes keeping track of a thread ridiculously hard, and the "go to last unread post" very unreliable.

I am hoping there is something in Options that I am not aware of to fix this... Or that they will correct the presentation of replies in a thread.

Also, you cannot link to a certain reply in a thread, because there is no longer a link to it in the title of the reply.

Re: Replies not placed in correct order

I completely undertstand why you posted this here, but look at the link I've supplied below, there's a Thread there where the Moderators are looking at a number of issues & suggestions etc with the Forums there.

I remember this happening to me right after the migration. I fixed mine by going into "My Settings / Preferences / Linear Layout"

Make sure you DON'T have "Normal topic order" selected.

use "Oldest first", and all posts are in what I call "normal order", just like they're supposed to be.

I just now double-checked this, and when I have it on "Normal topic order", my replies are all over the place in the threads (not normal to me). Once I switched it back to "Oldest first", I was back to normal.

I haven't had any issues with the "first unread post" feature. I always either click on the topic title, or the "new posts" number next to it.

As for linking to a specific post in a thread, look at the bottom left corner of each post "Message 13 of 26" for example. The "13" is the link you're looking for.

Hope this helps :smileyhappy:

DaletonaDave is correct. "Normal Topic Order" is the view you would see if you used the threaded format where each post is listed separately instead of as part of a topic. In this view, replies to replies are grouped together. For example:

Original post

   Reply A

   Reply B

       Reply D

       Reply Y

   Reply C

       Reply X

   Reply F

And so on and so forth. It may look very confusing if you're using the linear layout since the posts aren't separated out like they are with the threaded view. This should also make the jump to first unread post feature make much more sense once you make the change suggested by DaletonaDave since the posts will be sorted by date instead of their "order" within the topic.

He's also correct about the highlight feature. I just wanted to add in that you can also go to the Options menu associated with a particular post and select "Highlight'. This will highlight the post and you can copy the URL from the address bar.
