After 6 days, several recharges and hours of MAG and online chatter, I can attest that the controller and it's new in-built microphone is still going strong.

BIG UPDATE.
It has been a month plus a few days since I have last built this controller.
Good Stuff:
Bad Stuff:
I am improving this build by retrofitting a "Mute" DIP switch that shorts the microphone (essentially "muting" the mic) when turned on..

Dude, good Idea, there are a couple of solder points at the base of the board that only get power when the DS3 is on so you could draw power from there. Also for the mic mute what I did was use a normally open pushbutton, so the mic only recieves voice when I push it, like a walkie talkie, this also prevents button clicks from being transmitted. GL

Hello, Sorry for the late reply, I was having my hands full with College and stuff.
Out of experience, I do not suggest connecting the BT Power drawing from those solder points. When the power is cut to the BT Headset the PS3 and the headset "forgets" the pairing and they have to be synced again. Though if you can have sources to those info about the solder points, please do share them.
The Walkie Talkie may also be a good idea. I would be looking into a suitable position to place the N/O pushbutton for accessibility.

I had a feeling this would happen there would be privacy issues, but I was thinking if you turn off the controller the mic would also turn off, anyways I would TOTALLY buy one of these. for me its a must have!

Okay first off I 'm not into all the chatter while playing. I hardly ever play online because the talk annoys me but I gotta say that is very IMPRESSIVE!!! That was an excellent post and all the pics are great if someone wants to try to emulate you. Your text was amusing at times too. I especially liked the removal of the USB. Now how about some pics of the new additions?
