need some help understanding frames

5 replies 166 views Edited Mar 16, 2013

Big Daddy
--- Air Forward Triangle has 11 additional frames of start up
--- Air Down Square now gains 20 AP (up from 10), and victim’s reaction is reduced by 3 frames

1st one dont have a problem with because it did come out pretty fast, but my problem is the second one thats a combo starter for me.you know jump, down square, neutral triangle, down square, circle, jump, forward circle, land, jump, square, up trianlge 140 ap.so since victims reaction times is reduced by 3 frames does that mean i cant follow down square followed by  neutral triangle.

You probably still can, it just depends on how fast you are, the combo you're talking about is the one on the exhibition video, and it's a combo on the tutorials, if I remember correctly. I think it will still be possible.

A frame is 1/60th of a second. That may not sound like much, but in fighting games a difference of a couple frames can make a huge difference.

The first one is pretty self explanatory. The move takes 11/60 of a second longer to start. Whether or not this is a problem remains to be seen. I vaguely remember hearing that a person's average reaction time is 12-16 frames, so this may make it easier for people to jump over it on reaction.

As for the second one, I'm not entirely sure what this means. I *think* it means that there's 3 extra frames of blockstun from the 1st hit, but that's a weird way to word it, so that may not be it. I'm hoping it's blockstun though.

this game runs at 60 frames per second so every second 60 frames happen

eg a move can go on for 20 frames, 5 start up, 10 frames active then 5 frames recovery

pretty much the smaller the number of frames the move has on start up and recovery the better the move is

Edit: also that 12 frame only applies to super not normals, combo will still work and will only get you 130AP post patch seeing BigD up tirangle isn't one soild hit

my name is papertoonz and everyone's a bit crazy

60f/s and characters have been standardized to waiting until the 12 frame to use their super after an air attack. 12/60=.2 seconds

In other words. It's not instant anymore depending on the characters fought.
