I see on the website it says over 36 hours away and on the pre-TGS it says 26 hours so what's the deal?

TGS starts on Thursday in Japan and ends on Sunday in Japan. Knock off ~8-12 hours depending on where you live relative to Japanese time zones.

Just follow this http://tgs.playstation.jp/ it's a countdown so regardless of where you live it will start when it hits zero.
