It's the same thing.  You just are jumping instead of using the guns as the jump.  You are doing an EBC, only making it more difficult and less rewarding.

What exactly makes the EBC cheating while this isn't?  The only difference is that you are canceling different parts of the move.

Here is mine because everyone is wrong so far. Hop, fall alittle up triangle, over circle, over square. The hop makes it so you don't have to risk not slowing down. If you fall alittle perfectly it's a definite kill confirm.

Well, there is one advantage to this version:

The canceled scythe is safe on block this way, finally giving Dante something I can't just block and punish with full combo. I mean that it allows you to combo into level 1 is a nice plus, but yeah... Safe on block!

If he already had ways to do that then I apologize as I didn't know of them. I don't give Dante much respect because of how unsafe he usually is, but that could actually help in that department.

The vast majority of air moves in this game cancel the moment you land.  This means that some portion of their frames don't happen.  This technique can be used to safely approach from the air for basically every character.  But to limited use, because you have to do the move so close to the ground that it gets canceled.

Its how EBC works, it's how spike combos into his LVL1 off of his jump in shock thing.  It's a good technique to think about in general.

Right, I agree. Just saying I never see Dantes use ground cancel the scythe and it's actually a great approach option.

Speaking of which, what's the input for the scythe? Couldn't find it when I briefly brought him to training mode.

Re: Uh oh...

The one being used here is the karma scythe hit off the angel dash cancel.

If you cancel any triangle into angel dash, and then cancel the angel dash with forward + square you get the scythe hit that is being used for the LVL 1 confirm.

It can also be used to do a variation of the EBC 'infinite" where you basically do the Karma scythe hit with the recovery cancel, hit with whatever, cancel that into another karma loop, repeat.

Ah okay cool thanks. I was debating whether or not to pick up Dante, but I have so much trouble with his execution (Hopefully dusting off the old fight stick will help?), and not knowing that move made me feel terribad.

Re: Uh oh...

I use a dual shock for dante and don't find it too hard anymore, I basically just practiced it in live matches a ton till I could hit it consistently, but I have seen other people say that a fight stick helps with him.

He is a fun character, but I feel like he is pretty middle of the road at best.  Where in order to confirm a kill with him you have to use an elaborate setup, or the EBC usually, other characters can confirm kills off of just pressing square once.

He also has a hard time approaching in a way that converts, though he has helm breaker, which is stupid good in 2v2.  On the up-side he can build more AP than anyone else, having combos that build 200~ AP

It's a bad habit of mine, but I tend to panic and mash difficult inputs on a controller (Well, rapid and complicated, like VJoe in MVC3), whereas the fight stick makes me more precise for some reason. It's definitely a mental block on my part, but that's why I want to try again with that.
