I like the characters in the roster. But listen, all reviewers are going to be comparing the roster to that of Brawl and in all honesty, this roster isn't as impressive as the Brawl one. That will in fact hurt the review scores, which I know is dumb, but they help sell the game.
They honestly need to reveal more characters soon. Nowadays, 20 characters isn't enough to sustain a fighting game. I know there's DLC, but we don't know when that's coming. Friggin Tekken Tag 2 had 50 characters. Thats a little too much, I don't want that. But 20 isn't enough. If this is the final roster...lots of people are going to be severely dissapointed. I don't think this roster captures the "Playstation's history" thing very well.
Superbot really hasn't done much to get us hyped for this game in the past month and I think that they hype for this game is dying down pretty rapidly. Like whooaa they showed off some stages. But that doesn't get the community jumping like new charatcer reveals.
Here's hoping last day of TGS, otherwise this game's in trouble

This game will get bad reviews no matter how big the roster is.
On-topic: You're comparing Sony's set of IPs to the IPs single most powerful company in gaming history, Redfield. It's not an easy comparison to make; I love Sony, but this entire roster is nothing compared to Mario alone. Comparing it spot for spot to SSB isn't a fair comparison because the context is different.
