Well, for MLA it was actually a mix of multiple things:

A) That's when M2K debuted scrooging if I remember correctly, which makes it boring as **bleep** to watch.
B) Brawl is an imba mess that's pretty boring to watch anyway.
C) (This is the biggest one) M2k and someone else, I forget who, decided to throw a match so one of them would proceed since they knew only one of them (I forget which, but I would assume M2K?) could beat the player on the other side of the bracket, at which point they would split the pot.
This resulted in both players getting banned and Smash no longer being welcome at MLG.

I might be mixing up (This happened at either MLG or EVO, but I'm almost certain it was MLG.).

Don't get me wrong, PSABR is way better as a competitive fighting game, but sadly BECAUSE of Smash I'm afraid it may not get a chance at the big stage.

wasnt that complicated, they just split finals because they didnt want to risk losing that much money.

Oh, then which tournament am I thinking of? It was M2K and someone else throwing a match to avoid playing a top Olimar player, I think either Rich or Brood.

I agree there are some big flaws, like combo characters having no punishment for missing their combo starters. They should NOT be giving 0.5 sec. to recover, because that'll mean that slower characters(basicly all other characters) can't just block and wait for their combo starter to end and then counter, because they'll just keep pressing their combo starter buttons and it'll hit before the first move of the defending character.
That's actually my own problem with the game. Too little punishment for combo characters just throwing combos all over the place and missing.

And before you tell me to dodge through their combos and attack from behind. Raiden can attack backwards mid-combo. Seen it plenty of times.

BUT I still beat plenty of Raiden, Dante, Kratos 2v2 teams now and again.
So I'm actually more concerned about the Black Belts vs. Blue Belts matchups. I'm still trying to get my A game together with just a few characters, but when you get smacked around an entire match, there's not much to learn.

I believe why they haven't patched in a ranked 1v1 cause they know a few characters are broken for 1v1. And don't say no cause superbot already said three characters are broken for it already and are fixing them. -__-

Well, what do you consider broken? The only change they've confirmed is that they were working on Raiden's grab loop so it wouldn't work in lag. Everything else is just guesswork as to what will happen to the characters mentioned. Not necessarily huge nerfs.

I expect we'll see something like this (Pure speculation mind you):

Raiden: Grab loop fixed, hopefully without breaking all grab combos. Mild AP nerf or adding more ending lag onto certain moves. If they fix the grab issue by slowing down his grab even further, then this *might* not be necessary.

Kratos: Add a bit of ending lag on the squarex3/the move where he slams his chains down that can be comboed into from square x2.

Drake: Fix gun loop but hopefully without breaking the running gun>wall combo since it can be used mid combo, and it's not like he has a whole lot of combos as it is.

There's the Sir Dan Greenhand glitch and level 2 hitbox glitch.

And Sir Dan's Level 3 glitch where a well timed roll can amke you dodge the whole duration of the super regardless of being held in the bubble = Meaning you're stuck in an invincibility roll-frame throughout until the super ends. There's also Dan's movement speed of the level 3 in regards to the amount of stages in which his supers are effective. It's outright useless in large levels, especially against quick opponents like Raiden.

I don't think they'll add ranked 1v1.  Most people don't play 1v1 but people like playing for belts.  Playing ranked 1v1 will only magnify how unbalanced this piece of garbage game is.

Calling it garbage is stretching it. Buggy perhaps but hardly garbage.

@ Fab yeah I hope they fix that stuff. I meant in regards to the characters mentioned though.

Sir Dan does need glitches fixed, I personally think Giga Punch could lose the super armor, Good Cole could also probably use a nerf but I don't know what. Both Coles need their level 1 cost increased (Wasting a level 1 to avoid getting level 2 and still having 3 level 1s left over is ridiculous.).
Big Daddy needs his level 3 glitch fixed.
Jak could use an AP boost on the up Triangle move (Probably a lot more too, but IDK Jak that well.).

this game isnt unbalanced, its just not made for 1v1. for example, if i fight with radec against a kratos or raiden in 1v1, i would have no chance in hell. but if i fight against one raiden and two guys with kratos, i can easily beat them if im a better player then them. its perfectly balanced for 4 player matchups. not for 1v1. but this wasnt even the goal

.... I meant unbalanced for 1v1 as you mentioned. They are fine in ffa but 1v1 some characters dominate others.

Uhhhh what? Did you just say this game is more balanced for FFA than for 1v1? I mean, what?!
