Oh, then which tournament am I thinking of? It was M2K and someone else throwing a match to avoid playing a top Olimar player, I think either Rich or Brood.
Well, for MLA it was actually a mix of multiple things:
A) That's when M2K debuted scrooging if I remember correctly, which makes it boring as **bleep** to watch.
B) Brawl is an imba mess that's pretty boring to watch anyway.
C) (This is the biggest one) M2k and someone else, I forget who, decided to throw a match so one of them would proceed since they knew only one of them (I forget which, but I would assume M2K?) could beat the player on the other side of the bracket, at which point they would split the pot.
This resulted in both players getting banned and Smash no longer being welcome at MLG.
I might be mixing up (This happened at either MLG or EVO, but I'm almost certain it was MLG.).
Don't get me wrong, PSABR is way better as a competitive fighting game, but sadly BECAUSE of Smash I'm afraid it may not get a chance at the big stage.
wasnt that complicated, they just split finals because they didnt want to risk losing that much money.

Well, what do you consider broken? The only change they've confirmed is that they were working on Raiden's grab loop so it wouldn't work in lag. Everything else is just guesswork as to what will happen to the characters mentioned. Not necessarily huge nerfs.
I expect we'll see something like this (Pure speculation mind you):
Raiden: Grab loop fixed, hopefully without breaking all grab combos. Mild AP nerf or adding more ending lag onto certain moves. If they fix the grab issue by slowing down his grab even further, then this *might* not be necessary.
Kratos: Add a bit of ending lag on the squarex3/the move where he slams his chains down that can be comboed into from square x2.
Drake: Fix gun loop but hopefully without breaking the running gun>wall combo since it can be used mid combo, and it's not like he has a whole lot of combos as it is.
There's the Sir Dan Greenhand glitch and level 2 hitbox glitch.
And Sir Dan's Level 3 glitch where a well timed roll can amke you dodge the whole duration of the super regardless of being held in the bubble = Meaning you're stuck in an invincibility roll-frame throughout until the super ends. There's also Dan's movement speed of the level 3 in regards to the amount of stages in which his supers are effective. It's outright useless in large levels, especially against quick opponents like Raiden.

Uhhhh what? Did you just say this game is more balanced for FFA than for 1v1? I mean, what?!
this game isnt unbalanced, its just not made for 1v1. for example, if i fight with radec against a kratos or raiden in 1v1, i would have no chance in hell. but if i fight against one raiden and two guys with kratos, i can easily beat them if im a better player then them. its perfectly balanced for 4 player matchups. not for 1v1. but this wasnt even the goal
