So something just occurred to me...Look at this quote by Paul Gale:
"I haven’t seen it yet, but have been told that the page has 2X characters on it (which include the ones I’ve already been told are in the game). I want to see it myself! Of the X more characters left, I haven’t seen the polygonal in-game models for most, so knowing is half of it."
Previously he mentioned there were 22+ characters in the game...now he is saying 2X characters are in the game. Then when he says "Of the X more characters left..." he specifically capitalizes "X". During this post, he is also talking about his Street Fighter game idea...which we all know to be a Capcom game...
Megaman "X" is a series of games that took place in the years of 21XX while the original Megaman took place in the years of 20XX. This is quite similar to how Paul Gale refers to there being 2X characters remaining (capital X) rather than just repeating that there are 22+ characters. The Megaman X series was obviously created by Capcom as well.
Maybe I'm just grasping here, but I went ahead and posted about this to Paul Gale...we'll see what he says. I doubt he would actually confirm my theory, but his responses might give us a hint. My post is currently awaiting moderation
