Companies aim to sell a million copies of their game worldwide. That is usually the target they go for, however it depends on the budget of the game. For instance if it cost 70 million to make then it could be 3 million sales.

They probably don't make much if anything in royalties since the characters being in the game are advertising.  If they couldn't get these reps for dirt cheap, then we'd actually see no third party reps or possibly reps that we actually want to see.

For games like Uncharted that cost a LOT of money to make, 1 million isn't good. For games like Japanese games that are localized over in America with a translation, 100,000 is a ton. It all depends on maximum profit after the deduction of the game's cost to make. 

 

Like my example the Japanese game is just translated and shipped so the profit is good most of the time since the game most of the time made the profit in Japan, and it doesn't cost much to ship to America. Hope this makes since to some. 

 

So I'd say about 200,000 maximum for this game's success unless it costed tons to get the license for some 3rd party characters.

200,000 to break even. I think if they break even they'll make another game.
