Gran Turismo

Is anyone else shocked by the lack of Gran Turismo representation? It is only the best selling PS exclusive franchise ever. I am surprised there is no stage or mashup so far. Hopefully there would not be character, but there has to be a stage or item. Honestly, I never was into GT that much, I am just surprised by its absense from this game.

I would also settle for omega boost being in the game. ... polyphonic digital needs some sorta rep.

I would be highly surprised if GT wasnt represented in some way or other, a stage seems perfect and it could be mashed up with any other major racing franchise in sony history such as motorstorm or wipeout. I think we'll see some kind of GT representation by the time the game comes out.

I think the issue with GT representation is that GT uses a LOT of licensed content. GT is basically car porn, so it's beautifully rendered versions of real cars driving around (mostly) real race tracks. The problem is, those images of real cars come at a price. Wanna use a Skyline? You need Nissan's permission.

Essentially, if they tried using this stuff in All-Stars (most likely as a stage element), they'd have to get the licenses to ALL the appropriate car models. Sure, they could use some of the original tracks (High Speed Ring, Trial Mountain, etc.) vs. the likes of the famous Monaco circuit or that German course whose name I can never spell or pronounce, but there's nothing really iconic about them that would make them stand out here. It's all about the painstakingly detailed cars, and Superbot probably don't have the resources to go to Nissan, Toyota, Ford, Dodge, whoever to get the rights to those cars for this game, and as a result, GT gets left out.

That's my theory anyway.

It's possible that they don't use licensed cars. Just have some generic car models.

At which point we get into the issue I raised about using the original tracks as a stage. They're too generic. They could be representative of any racing game. Imagine, say, that Twisted Metal stage. Suddenly, some generic GT-style cars come swerving in. A few people could probably watch it thinking "wait, what game was that supposed to be?" Sure, GT would be a reasonable guess, but so too would a good chunk of games from Codemasters.

Don't get me wrong, GT is definitely a big franchise and I do enjoy pulling out GT5 here and there, so it's far from a bad series, but overall, its selling point is the car porn, and as such there's nothing that's completely unique to GT that would stand out in a game such as this.

Now, Wipeout or Motorstorm, those are some Sony racing franchises with plenty of unique elements to include here. Wipeout crafts flying into that Twisted Metal stage I mentioned? HELL YES :smileytongue:

I think it'd be cool to have a stage that mashed up Gran Turismo with Mod Nation Racers. Just sayin'.

I see where you are coming from DP. But I have an image in my mind of the corner of a race track, with the sun hanging over, and the occasional car going round the track. The tracks are car porn enough. I suppose the same could be any other racing game, even Modnation. I suppose it's the game's fault it doesn't have any single iconic thing about it.

Gran Turismo is the best video game franchise Sony has ever made so it definitely deserves some kind of representation. A stage mashup with all of Sony's racing and vehicular combat series would be perfect. Start with a normal GT race, progress with MotorStorm riders trying to knock the GT drivers out. After a while, combatants from ModNation Racers, Twisted Metal and WipEout start appearing and annihilating everything in their sight.

Or if they really wanna go crazy, just have a Nissan Skyline GT-R Transformer.
