Fun

7 replies 160 views Edited Oct 6, 2012

here's a question, when you're playing a game, are you having fun?

i dunno about you guys, but to me, if a game's fun, then it's a good game,

hence why i actually enjoyed the abysmal sonic the hedgehog,

of course, some people play video games for the story,

i have a friend that will only play a game if it has a good story,

but he's still having fun with it,

so, what are you guys really looking for?

when you're looking for a game, are you playing for some other reason other than fun?

oh, and another thing,

what do you think are the fundamentals of  a good video game?

for me, it's

1. story/gameplay

2. sfx

3. graphics....

Story and gameplay are the most important factors to any game. Graphics are simply visual, they don't really have to be focused on (newest Rayman proved this).

Re: Fun

it really depends, but i think for me it ultimately is the experience and what story i can take from it.

i play uncharted for that cinematic storytelling, i play burnout for the pure adrenaline rushed fun, i play smash for that hyper competitive and random zany action.

in all those games i can walk away being able to clearly talk about why i had fun and what i got out of it, and what my story was (which is why I love multi-threaded RPGs)

Thus far the thing I'm coming to All Stars for is purely fun factor. And I want to walk away being able to talk smack about my buddies. I also love the "one more time" aspect to it (which is less about fun like burnout, but more about mastering something ala smash or even prince of persia)

i look toward story first, than gameplay, graphics has to be last for sure.
