Cross-Controller Play is now real

4 replies 272 views Edited Dec 12, 2012

Everyone knew that the Vita had the potential to be used as a controller like the Wiiu game pad and they suggested it to Sony and now here's the first game to incorporate it what are your thoughts do u think the PS4 will come with a controller or just use the Vita or the Vita's successor for thistype of feature?

well for this game it's different cause it's crossplay but they could add the option too.

I think they Vita should be the controller on the PS4.

Not only does it allow the PS4 to compete directly with the Wii U by being able to do what the Wii U can do, but it gets more Vitas out there and the Vita is still its own system.  This means that there are going to be guaranteed Vitas out there and that more developers might make third party games for the Vita instead of shying away from it as many do.

Sony could also use it to their advantage by continuing to make downgraded Vita games of their console games and encouraging third party developers to do the same.  Maybe offering more money each game sold for adding cross play into every game.  So every game you buy for the PS4 would have a home version and a portable version.

Example.  Need For Speed Underground by Criterion for PS4 and 720 might have GTA5 graphics in an open world environment, but the Vita version will look like Most Wanted did.  The same exact world, same exact gameplay, but graphics that are somewhere in between the Wii and PS360.

By encouraging third party developers to do this and giving them a bigger profit on each game sold, people who don't use the PS4 as their multiconsole system might start getting all their multiconsole games on the PS4 since they get a free Vita version with it.

One thing Sony would have to do is make it mandatory that a Dualshock 3 can be used for every game that's playable on the PS4 except for those that are going to be Vita required and no way around it.  This way everyone can use whatever controller they want.  Add "Vita required" somewhere on the box for games that require the Vita to play just in case people don't like the gimmick games.
