Maybe you should pop it back in and might find a gem in something originally thought was bad. Take in the design and do what exploration you can do.
I played it beginning-to-end for 40+ hours after it launched. (Not all in one sitting, mind you.) And I would rather cut off the last section of pinky finger before ever touching that game again.
I don't need its anime-tropes. I don't need its poor writing and structure. I don't need its combat system that is a step backwards from Legend of Legaia's. And I DEFINITELY don't need another wallet-grabbing, cop-out cliffhanger.
Because Final Fantasy's should NOT have cliffhangers. That's why it's "FINAL".
VI, VII, and IX are all $10 each on the PSN, and are a billion times more inspired, memorable, and likeable.
Of course 13 got decent scores. It was the first final fantasy in the generation. What reviewer would want to risk giving the most popular jrpg franchise a low score. If they were the only ones who didn't like it, that would rruin the reputation. Heck, even some of the sites are bashing it now that they found out what people think of it.
It got good reviews because it was a good game.
