The closest to a PS3 user making a folder is making a Playlist. You can do this for Movies, Music and Photos.

Shall we play a game?

You can if your stuff is stored on a USB HDD.

PS3 will recognize subfolders within VIDEO folder of an external drive.

They have to be set up via PC though.

Hit triangle then under information you can click album, I think, Write whatever you want and that's the sub-folder that will be made.

This is correct, what your looking for are 'Albums'. To do this, like invader said, Hit 'Triangle' on the controller on the object you wish to catorgize, set a Albumb name and then when your done, by hitting 'Square' on the controller, you can change how it groups your files/pics/etc. Hit 'Square' until you see your Album names.

Hope this helps..

Yep If that doesn't work then your xmb is just not set to sort  by album.  In that case you just pull up the triangle menu and press square switch between different ways of sorting the files.
