Running PS1 and PS2 emulators on Linux which is installed on ps3

16 replies 271 views Edited Jan 26, 2009

I own a crap load of PS1 and PS2 games, however my consols are on the fritz - so rather than buy new ones, i'm wondering how fast the ps1 and ps2 emulators are when running on a linux install on the ps3?

I've seen it done, and I've seen them be able to hook up the six-axis controllers up to linux as well...

Has anyone seen this? And if so, how is the performance of them?

All PS3's support PS1 games. So I could understand a PS2 emulator. But I would suspect the speed would be horrible slow, due to the lack of RAM.

From my understanding a ps2 emulator can't run through linux because of the ps3's anti hacking measures, i'm not 100% on this though.
"If you want ps2 B/C just get a ps2"
Oh really?How about this?
If you want cross game chat get skype, if you want in game music get a mp3 player.

First of all, all PS3s play PS1 games.

As for emulators through Linux, it is impossible, as of now. First and foremost, there is no GPU access in Linux, so it is hard to impossible to run even basic 3D graphics. Second, the PS3 doesn't have enough power to run a non Sony emulator. Even the best PS2 emulator for Windows requires more power than the PS3 can provide.

In essence, emulators are legal. As long as you are not downloading the BIOS or the ISOs/ROMs, it is legal.

The legality is a bit of a gray area due to the POS DMCA declaring damn near anything corps want illegal. The fact that we can't discuss emeulators here is not gray though...
