The PS3 slim can do a "fan test" like some of the older models.

Unplug the power cord from the back of the console. 3. While holding down the Eject button, plug the power cord back in. It should come on with the fans at high speed.I have personally done this myself about 4 times. It works!

why?

lol, i could see if you were doing this for its first power cycle, but 4 times?  ok... do you have your ps3 set-up on a heater? that might be your issue.

...you are setting yourself up for a disaster by making the ps3 do something that does not fall within the confines of normal usage...

The dangerous fan test is the one where you have the PS3 upside down so that the heat goes to the thermometer.

The same test work on the fat models also but instead of using the cord use the power switch on the back.

why did you post in a thread thats nearly 2 1/2 years old, and what do you mean by its quite, i dont realy consider that a bad thing as long as the fan is still moving, id say its a good thing if you cant hear it and the fan is still working.
