PS3 controller will not light up unless plugged in.

7 replies 2261 views Edited Jul 4, 2011

The controller will not light up or turn the PS3 on at all. Once the system is on and I connect it with the USB it then lights up and syncs with the system, it has a full battery and once you disconnect it, it is still synced with the system. After I turn the system off and try to turn it back on again with the controller it does not light up again. I have tried the reset button on the controller and still nothing. Any ideas on what could be wrong with it?

After you disconnect it and start using it does the battery last a while, or go dead pretty quickly?

And when you say it does not light up, you mean when you press the PS button nothing happens at all (no lights of any kind), or it just blinks and never syncs?

Yes, the battery does last for a while, and yes I press the PS button and nothing happens. No lights turn on until I plug in the USB while the system is on.

If every other controller that you or your friends have work fine, then that means your PS3 is fine, and since it lights up when you plug it, the USB cable is also fine. The only remaining possibility is a dead Dualshock battery. Sync problems usually keep the 4 lights flashing all the time. Try replacing the internal battery of your SIXAXIS/DS3 and see if it works. Test other controllers to confirm this.

did you use your controller on your PC/laptop?

I have the same problem but it began just after I did that.

I will replace the battery and see, sounds like thats the problem too.

And no i did not use it on my laptop unless somebody else did when I wasn't paying attention but I will look into that as well.

Try resetting the controller. You can do this by pushing the tiny button with a paperclip or a toothpick. This happened to me and I

pushed the reset button and it worked fine. Hope this works for you.

I tried it but it did not work. I think it is just a dead battery.
