PS3 Slim runs hot!

32 replies 806 views Edited Aug 27, 2009
Picked up a PS3 Slim yesterday, hooked it up and to my surprise the new system is VERY quiet! No more loud fans!!! BUT it runs very hot underneath and towards the back of the unit, even the discs are hot when I take them out! Has anyone else seen this?

I wonder if our expectations make it seem hotter than it is.

With everyone talking about smaller chips ..... less heat for the last month, it would be easy to get our expectations a little off.

I got mine yesterday. I ran for 11 or so hours. I was not doing heavy play all that time.

I agree .... a fair amount of warm are is coming out the back (designed to do that). The top of mine was actually like luke warm but ..... yes the back was doing the warm air blast ... like it was designed to do.

totally normal for the ps3 to be hot, there is a power brick rigth inside of it at the back, and that is where it gets warm, there are pictures here on the forum about the power brick inside the ps3 AMAZING

I wonder if all the people complaining about the ps3 being hot are BRAND NEW ps3 owners. Not being demeaning or anything but have you felt how hot the original ps3 runs? It would make a good heater in the winter and that is not even kidding.

PS3 runs hot normally.

Even the slim will run hot.

If the CPU is designed to run at 130 degrees - then that's what it will be at.

Sure the smaller chipset creates less heat which requires a smaller fan - but if it's designed to run at 130 - less heat production means a smaller fan is needed to keep it running at 130 - the larger the die - the larger the fan needed.

Normal.

Just a thought. I figured when I got my 60gb ps3 I was amazed for a long time how much hot air it pushed. I would expect the slim to be less extreme than the original ps3 but still the heat has to go somewhere. I would think if it is not insane like the first run ps3s then I would not think twice about it. I figured there were a lot of people that were used to the ps2/gamecube, etc, etc which really produce little heat.

the fans were never loud in the first place. you might say that compared to the PS3 "fat", the slim is a lot quieter.

You mean your PS3 Slim seems hot to you, right?  You're not trying to claim that the average PS3 Slim runs hotter than the average original PS3, are you?
