I recently bought a 80 Gig PS3 about a week ago. Just aboute everytime I use it, the controller will lose sync after 0.5 to 1 hour. When this happens I can't do anything but turn off the PS3 and restart. This is annoying me a lot (I've lost my progress plenty of times during games).
This dropping seems to happen quicker when I'm connected wirelessly, but also happens when I'm directly connected through USB. For sure, it's not because of the charge (it's always 3 bars). When it drops, the character will just continuously do whatever it was doing last. Often, the 4 bars on the controller will be blinking rapidly (not the slow "recharge" blinking, a rapid 4 blinking) and then nothing on the controller works anymore. Also, I have two controllers and once the connection is dropped, no other controllers work either (and I can't resync any of them). I have used both controllers (each of them being the #1 or #2 controller and the problem exists).
I've tried pressing the reset button on the back of the controller, and that hasn't helped at all.
Finally, it's weird because when it happens, I go to turn off the PS3 (via the button on the console) and it turns off but the blue and green lights keep blinking. I have to press it again for it to actually power down (to get the red light).
Has anyone experienced this? does anyone know what I can do about this??

So does anyone have any ideas? I've died many in-game deaths now battling this.
Lots of people have complained about this. Sadly little is known about fixing it. Several people have said they are sending their unit in to Sony for repairs/replacement. So far I have never seen anyone who has sent their system in come back and say what happened with the new unit.
The problem for me has gotten so bad I can't watch a movie without having to shut off the PS3 and restart just so I can pause the movie if I need to. It seems to get worse every day I use the PS3. Makes the PS3 pretty much useless in my opinion.
The problem happens to all of my controllers at the same time. That is two Sixaxis and a Sony Bluetooth Remote all stop working at the exact same time until I reset. So the problem is obviously not the controllers. I am going to wait for this weeks System update and see if that fixes anything. If it does not, I am calling Sony and getting repairs done. I will come back here afterwards and let you know what I find.

Ok, I finally sent my PS3 in (the same day I got LBP). Sony replaced the console, it took one week with shipping, but they returned it on the same day they got it.
The new Console works perfectly. So it is apparent that the problem I was having, and many others MAY be having, is a hardware issue that Sony is either aware of, or willing to provide a replacement for.
My PS3 was still under warrantee. I suggest that if you are experiencing this issue that you send the console back to Sony before the warrantee expires.

Yeah IT WOULD BE REALLY GREAT IF SONY ADDRESSED THIS PUBLICLY!
I've had this problem for months now and really dont know if I should send it in as I have heard no official word. The resynch controller issue with PS3's is a major issue.
I have a 60GB and want to keep it. Am I assured I will get the same unit back? I'm really hating my ps3 atm cause I can't play a game more than an hour without it losing synch and can only be powered off to resynch, what a load of junk.
