So, out of nowhere, my PS3 has stopped outputting sound through HDMI.
I've been using the optical out in my own personal setup at home so that it connects to my 5.1 system. But when I took it over to my friend's house, we tried connecting it via HDMI to the TV and the video wroked but there was no sound. I thought it might be the cable so i switched cables, still no sound. Used his cable TV HDMI cable (Which has sound when we tested it) and connected it to the TV with my PS3 still no sound. Checked menu settings each time to make sure that the settings were set on HDMI and automatic, still nothing.
In the end we had to resort to using my component cables for the PS3 but it's kind of annoying that my HDMI isn't working. Do you think it's just my PS3 port is broken? In which case, why would the video be working and not the sound? Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi M8 did you get the problem sorted, i having the same issue myself.
My PS3 to my LCD TV via HDMI does not have any sound what so ever, but i have picture/video. If i switch to my composite cables everything works. So what’s the problem is it my TV? My HDMI cable? (which i will buying a new one tomorrow) or my PS3?
I tried the hold the on/off button for 5 seconds restoring to default.
Any suggestions? peeps

I've done that already. Still no solution, I find it weird that only the audio isn't working. I've tried different TVs, different Cables. i've used my laptop to output via HDMI to test the TVs and Cables i've used on the PS3 and it works with teh same cables. So I think it's teh PS3, but something is causing the pins on the HDMI to not transmit sound, or the microchip i think. /shrug it's not hugely affecting me right now but it is annoying.
