can you provide a link to the "kit" I'm not sure what that is.  Any standard SATA 2.5" notebook drive will work in the slim.

this is a good drive http://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Scorpio-Drive-WD5000BEVT/dp

I'm sure you can buy it a PC component store for a good price too.

That looks overpriced and is probably not a reliable brand.  I would suggest you buy the Western Digital drive I linked.  A fool proof way to ensure you get a good replacement drive would be to do the USB external HD "full system backup" then remove your PS3's hard drive and take it to the PC store with you and say "I want the same thing but bigger, it's for my PS3" lol.  They can hook you up.

Go to a PC Tech store, NOT a Best Buy or other retailer.  You'll want to buy an OEM drive.

Youtube has countless instructional videos on how to replace the PS3 HD.

you dont need a so called "kit" to upgrade your hardrive, just a philips screwdriver and another 2.5" hdd. another thing, memory and hdd space are 2 completely different things, memory refers to ram, not hard drive space available. i would recomend a western digital drive, all depending how much space you want will determine which hdd you get. and it works with both slim and fat, why wouldnt it, they both use 2.5" hdds, its like asking if the dualshock that came with my fat would work on my friends slim, why wouldnt it, they are the same thing.

You probably WILL want some new screws since the originals seem to strip so easily.

If you use a jewelers screwdriver and take the effort not to cross thread them, they will never strip.
