Does PS3 support AVI Files with Divx and Xvid compression, because I have a movie on my usb, and the PS3 didn't recognize it...

It supports most of them. The PS3 is now a "certified" Divx player, so as long as you use the official Divx protocals you should be fine.

Yes, it does support Divx, and by its similarity, Xvid as well. And AVI is fine as long at it contains content encoded with compatible video and audio codecs.

Note that Divx3 is not supported, because it was an illegal hack of a patented Microsoft codec. So Divx support is for version 4 or newer. If your movie doesn't work, then it is likely either Divx3, or has an incompatible audio codec.
