People like to spend money on their precious things.  They probably also have bling case stickers on them as well.

Yeah, I wonder... People seem to think the PS3 actually needs additional cooling, which I don't get. It's obviously made to work perfectly with just its built-in fans (as long as you have it in a place where air can flow freely around it), so why do people feel this need to add extra fans and other stuff? If it gets overheated and breaks, it's either because you're doing something wrong (such as keeping it locked up inside a small space), or there's something wrong with it. If so, you should get it replaced/repaired anyway. Additional cooling is not required.

Anything that is forcing dust/ dirt into the system is not a good idea. Just place in a ventalated area and your good too go. Ps3 will not overheat unless you smuther it

I wouldn't recommend using an intercooler that you could find at a game store, it blows the hot air back into the system, which causes a more likely chance of overheating. It would also melt the parts inside, which leads to system melt-downs.

However if you have your PS3 sitting down, the only cooler I would recommend is a laptop fan. Just put it at the bottom of your PS3, and it will be cool most of the time. That should prevent your system from overheating, but the chances of your Playstation 3 overheating is very low, so I wouldn't want to waste $20 on a cooling fan.

How does a cooling pad help? Lap tops have their vents on the bottom. PS3 has it's vents on the sides. I don't understand how a cooling pad would work with a PS3.
