Bring Back Backwards Compatibility!

3695 replies 110 views Edited Jul 17, 2008
I honesty think Sony should add b/c to all it's Ps3 because we have alot of classic titles on the Ps2. Sony is eventually going to discontinue the production of Ps2 maby two years? Having B/C is a great selling advantage for those who still have Ps2's and haven't Purchase a Ps3 yet. Another fact is we got games like Gow 3 coming out to Ps3 alot of us love playing the old titles which are on the Ps2 right before the New release. Like MGS4 many would like to brush up by playing the previous titles! I think Sony should consider placing back B/C or a usb B/C accessory device to add it as a option?

No matter what you say they won't change their minds on B/C for the upcoming 80GB Core.

doin that will increase production cost and no one wants the price on the system to go up!

I think the lack of BC is over hyped. I know when I got my PS2 I hardly touched a PS1 title. The ONLY reason I have played PS2 games on my PS3 is revisit DMC and MGS, I still have all the GTA games along wiht ONI but I have no issue breaking out the PS2 to play those.

May BC rest in Peace. It will never grace the PS3 again. Read the Engadet article/interview with Jack Tretton. He wnats BC, but Sony doesn't.

PS3
On backwards compatibility: Jack explained that Sony looked at how to "not take a greater hit on production cost, without losing PlayStation's heritage ... Hardware / software for backwards compat wasn't all that expensive. ... but we're selling PS2 software to PS2 customers, and selling PS3 software to PS3 consumers." Still, Jack seems to feel like it may have been the wrong move. "I would like to have had it in there, but Sony's collective strategy determined we could afford to lose it. We've now gone down that road, and we're not going back."

On DRM and the video store: As of right now, Tretton is a firm supporter of the need to DRM content on the PlayStation platforms, and Sony believes that "the drm for a song maybe isn't as important for a movie and a game... this is way too hard a business to make money in to allow people to own multiple copies for the price of one." (That's what they all say!) "I'm all for allowing an individual consumer having the freedom to do with their content what they want," but Sony has no intention of opening its video up any more than it has to.

I think Sony is doing the right thing with their product. They are looking to make a the PS3 more of a system to play current gen PS3 games, i have no problem with that. They want to push more PS3 software at this point...
