The whole story was fake.  The failure rate of the PS3 is less that .02%   Not 2% but .02 %......Most of the so called "BAD" systems are because people bought them thinking that there would be backwards compatibilty.  User stupidity does not count in console failure rates.

wrong   .2%  not .02   its is 1/5 of 1%

I believe that we should stop posting on threads that are missleading (including myself), we all know what is this all about, lets stop giving any importance to this

I'm not even going to go to it.  It'll be a waste of time.

This is a roomer and Sony came out and said it aint true. Old news btw .....

Another bad attempt at viral marketing perhaps? If so, then we should be complaining less about it happening, and taking more notes on the players that are beginning to surface - they are now visiable.

No. More of a Journalist who hear that a company was having a high return rate. Did minor investigation and said that the drive were failing at a 40% rate. What most likely was true was that while soem could have been bad, it's more then likely that the user returned the PS3 becuase his/her PS2 games would not work. the journalist should have done more research before breaking the news. But thought instead that careful wording of "Sony might have a problem" would be good enough to avoid critism, if the research find out that the users has good consoles, but turns out it was a user error instead of bad hardware.

Now that's hilarious, they (The ones originating the 40% claim) totally retracted their claim on the 40% failure rate, and not some type of "unfortunate set of coincidences" - I wonder if they think we'll believe that? Before making claims, I wonder if they fully research something for accuracy. It very well could be another of those "types" we see here at many GameStops, just working more of their mundane "magic" on society: the pwnage generation. When will these people ever grow up.
