Update 3.60 With Cloud Saving!

33 replies 123 views Edited Jan 29, 2011

I just thought I'd let people that don't already know about a feature that is coming up in the next 3.6 update known as "Online Saving" In other words, people will be able to save their gamesaves to a cloud. No one knows whether it is Playstation Plus Exclusive or if it's for everyone, but it's coming!

I had heard this was going to be a Playstation Plus exclusive, though i don't see the point of this. Most saves are small in size, Its the game data that's eating up my memory

I have heard about the new servers from Cisco that will use "cloud" technology.  This will be awesome, glad to see that this company is using the newest available technology.  It will keep things on the cutting edge, which will generate tons of money.  Hats of to you Sony.

No word? The article on kotaku does say it'll only be made available to PS Plus members.

http://kotaku.com/5746393/save-your-ps3-games-in-thin-air Is the real news release..

PSN already has the cloud server system in place called QRIOCITY. PSN is were the service is exclusive to PS3 or PSP ( soon NPG).  But Qriocity has to be paid for so how much a year would you pay. Game saves can be as big as a AAC music file.
Heavy rain is 4 MB
Portal is  1.8 MB
HAWX 1.2 MB
WORMS 3 MB
Lara croft 1.6 MB
Just a few, now times that buy the 80% of PS3 users online.
Your still looking at TB of storage that has to be paid for.

Qriocity cloud service is not free, even the music unlimited min service has a extra Fee.

It's not about saving storage space.  It's about having your gamesaves stored elsewhere than on your PS3.

Since all gamesaves can be copied online (even copy-protected saves), you would have your gamesaves where you went, and you would not lose them when your system dies.

Glad to see cloud storage space mentioned. I do like the idea of this and I think that if only ps+ members could get this, the idea would encourge more people to sign up for ps+. Some questions though,

1) How much storage space will Sony give us?

2) Can we store other things besides game saves?

I like the idea of storing game saves, but I'd like to be able to store episodes of Qore as well.

the point would be that people's saved data would be server-side, which eliminates the headache of copy-protected saves.

i see this as a huge plus and even as a PS+ member i hope that they allow this for all users, not just PS+ members.

I think that we need cloud saving now. There is no reason why we shouldn't already have the option.

Its a no brainer. Back up your files, plus you van move those protected saves to other ps3 systems without any legalities barring you.
