Universal Game Invites and Join Session Button
Universal Game inviting is a feature that allows inviting your friends directly to your game match through the XMB friend's list. The join session button is a feature for when your friend is playing a game you can select their name and go to 'Join Game Session' it and it will prompt you to insert that game and will automatically bring you into without going through menus. Adding these two feature to the XMB makes it:
Voice Mail and Private Voice Chat in-game
Improve the Notification System
It's hard to tell when you got a new message. The notification popup is black, quiet and blends in very well with most games because your focal point is always the middle of the screen. Adding things like color, and sound would really help people notice this notifications. The reason there should be a sound notification for messages is the same reason you have one for trophy unlocks so you know something happened. Not only is it hard to know when you get the notification but if you missed it you have to manually check your friends list or message box inbox to see if you got anything new. Almost every message system (emails, forums, blogs, social networking sites, etc.) has some kind of symbol and number that represents your unread messages on every page. Adding a symbol somewhere on the XMB makes it more user friendly, informs them better and saves the consumers' time precious time. The friend request should also be located on top instead of the bottom, friend request are yes or no questions and should appear at the very top so you can deal with them quickly adding them to the bottom isn't very user friendly. You do have the option to accept friend request in the message box but the idea of adding them to the bottom isn't have smart especially for people who have 50+ friends. Any website you go to it has it's main links on the very top no website forces you to scroll to the very bottom to do something.
In addition to these these two features you should be able to push the PlayStation button to automatically direct you to the message you recieved as long as the notification is still on your screen. This can be optional but if you get an invite or in a text chat room you don't want to scroll to your friends list all the time, you want it to just pop up because it saves so much more time.
I thoguht this would fit here best without making a new area because it's something to notify you of info

Making it like this makes it easier for the users to do use this feature and keeps them more informed. Also if you started a chat room it should automatically load you in the chat room when you push the PS button.
Things being done faster and in the background
Improve User Profiles and Options
I designed this in Photoshop however some of the images were taken from PlayStation.com and modified into this design. I know it's gray and black but it's just idea for layout.
Love thy Second Player
On the PlayStation 3 the second player isn't as loved as the first, the second player dosen't get trophies and can't sign on to PlayStation network in most games. The software needs to be changed so that as soon as the second controller is turned on they have to sign on to a profile through the XMB isntead of expecting the developer to implement a system where you have log on the profile in the game. This needs to be fixed because second player does not get trophies or get to sign on to PlayStationStation network but and most important of all they don't get to save save data to their profile most of the time. Basically tie together the controller port and the user profile when the controller connects so that developers can easily let both players get trophies, their own save files and sign on to the Network.
PlayStation Network Store Improvements
Develop the trophy system more
^Not those ones specifically but they are just examples but it'd be cool to have Ranks like that. It will also give people more incentive to collect trophies to get special symbols and things.
I also think it'd be cool if there were non-game specific trophies like
Better external device intergration
Better In-game Music Support
Right now Sony expects developers to add music support to their games and yet they don't. Sony should allows users to listen to music even though it may overlap with the game music because in the game you most of the time have the option to control your sounds( SFX, SPEECH, MUSIC). Then the only problem the user will face is when a cutsene is happening. The solution to this is making one of the controller buttons while on the XMB a shortcut to the music player so you can easily and quickly pause your music. The PS3 has a dedicated SPU for the XMB and streaming music dosen't need a lot of memory therefore it's not a ressource problem. In addition we also should be able to stream music from our Media Servers while playing games.
More codec/container support
More Privacy/'Safety' Options
Ability to appear offline, to temporaily block friends and message flood protection.
