This does not happen every time, sometimes I can go two weeks with no problems, but then all of a sudden it happens again. What is happening is that sometimes when I go to play a disc based game or downloaded game the PS3 will go to a black screen and will just stay there. It also does this when quiting a game. I go to quit game, then click yes, then it stays on a black screen. At either point, I have to go up and manually turn the PS3 off. What is also odd, is that if I try to turn it back on with the controller after it does this, I can't, the controller light keeps blinking. Now when I turn it back on, it will most of the time take me to the screen to select which profile I want to log into, but sometimes gives me the screen where I can submit a report to Sony.
Also what is weird is that sometimes when I try to go to turn off system instead of quit game, it will begin to shut down, blink for around 30 seconds, then I get like a triple beep, then it finally turns off. Again, it doesn't do this all the time.
I have tried the safe mode multiple times, sometimes back to back and each time I try to restore the hard drive it tells me it is corrupted and then it restores it. But this just started happening out of the blue a few months back and I have had my PS3 for over 3 years now and I have had the upgraded hard drive in for over 2. I called Sony and after we did all the safe mode options, including me backing up my data on my external hard drive and restoring the PS3 to default settings, all they can tell me is to send it in. Does anyone have idea how I can fix this, or is sending it in my only option now?
