Stuck in system update

My PS3 started an system update at 4 am this morning and as of noon today it still shows the updating system screen. Do these updates usually take this like to instal? I'm new to the PS having bought it a couple of weeks ago. And yes my wifi is fine and my router shows that the PS3 is connected to the network and my network speed tests show between 20-25mbps.

No.  System updates usually take no more than 20 minutes on a good broadband connection.
