on the private forum sony created they put a link of a step by step process to fix the 4.45 update crash. im trying to fix the crash now bc i've been gone for two months. note that it has not been turned on or touch in the time that i have been gone. now i am having trouble viewing the link bc of the page saying its a error. where else can i get the fix useing a usb pen so that my safe mode can download the new 4.46 update.

WHERE IS THE SONY MODERATOR OF THIS BLOG?? WHY HAVE YOU NOT WEIGHED IN ON THIS ISSUE IMPACTING HUNDREDS OF YOUR CUSTOMERS?!?
I just got off the phone with a Sony PS3 tech support supervisor after a frustrating 4-5 hour stretch of wading through SafeMode options that do nothing. Obviously, I'm having the same problem as everyone else here. How convenient that the last mandatory system update Sony forces down your throat before the PS4 is released renders your out-of-warranty PS3 unusable, eh?
If anyone has found a way to resolve this problem, or found the mysteriously disappeared Sony post that was supposed to detail a resolution path, would you please repost? Sony is still claiming they know nothing about this and that there's no way their system update could have caused the PS3 to become unrecoverable, (as laughably absurd as that may sound to anyone who has ever worked in the hardware or software development industry).
I never had this problem myself, but have had problems like it in the past, the work around would most likely involve..
1: download the firmware update onto a flashdrive over a pc.
2: disconnect your ps3 from the internet.
3: find a way to make the hard drive reformat itself (either through safe mode or by simply turning it off completely with the switch on the back and removing the hard drive then putting it back in) if you do the taking the hard drive out method and actually smell it and smell a faint burnt smell then its probably actually fried. Don't fret tho, just means its a good time to upgrade to a larger one. Cheap and worth every penny of the investment.
4: during the reformatting process it will tell you need the latest firmware patch, plug in the flashdrive and continue following the directions till its done and boots up.
You can find the firmware patch download and more details about the process and how to save the file correctly so that you ps3 will recognize it here..
Hopefully the problem is not with the hard drive itself and the patch file got corrupted (happens a lot over wifi connections. Always always always go hardwire for firmware updates)
