60 gb fatty. Bought it from an acquaintance who bought it shortly after launch. Been going strong for years with no issues. Recently, I started playing RE5 and experienced some graphics glitches. Blamed the game until it got worse and started happening in more and more games. Did some searching, and found mixed diagnoses on the issue. The probelm was exactly this. (Kid in the video is a **bleep**, but that was my same problem). But the general consensus was that if nothing else, opeing it up and cleaning it would only help. So I did. I openened it up and cleaned it out. In this process I did not separate the main board from the heat sink/fan assembly, but I did unnecessarily remove the heat sink brackets. I think this is what is causing my problem.
Now after my cleaning attempt, I put it back together, power it on, and it does as title states, boots up, then almost immediately the fans come on like a 747 and it shuts off. I can sometimes briefly see a "The system has become hot" warning in the upper right corner. But this thing is room temperature. So I am suspicious that I somehow disconnected or damaged the cpu temp sensor.
Any suggestions or help is much appreciated. And if I may attempt to bribe someone into helping me, and do something nice for someone by giving them a game, if anyone can give me a really helpful answer that gets my PS3 back in action, I will send you your choice of one of my older games: Heavy Rain, LA Noire, BF3, or LBP.
