I have a slim and just bought an ultra slim
After I updated my slim to 4.31 (auto upgrade ... :-/ , if i leave my ps3 off for about an hour or MORE, the system will freeze when loading XMB... i'll get the ps3 sony sound, but it will freeze. I tried swapping out HDD but that did not fix the problem. I even tried to download the 4.31 onto a thumb drive and instal it onto the PS3 slim and still didnt fix the problem.
So frustrated, I went out and bought a NEW super slim (ultra slim) last night. I had no problems downloading everythign I needed, including forcing me to update to 4.31 (4.30 is not an option). My system went off via power savings. This morning, I go to turn it on and just like that... system freezes prior to loading XMB menu. I have a cool (not) video i'll try to post.
THE ONLY option in safe mode that works for both of these machines is to do a total system format... something that I will not be foreced to do every single time I turn on the PS3.
I took that new PS3 back, got a new one... set it up and then turned it off for about 4 hours. As soon as I turned it back on, it worked as such... however... this one has not been updated to 4.31.
Any ideas or tips on preventing a third PS3 from crashing?
Could it be possible that since this is happening on both systems, that this problem is related to my tv and or HDMI cable? I have one of those new ethernet/hdmi cables and a Philips HDTV (barracks room tv) that has an auto off feature that I can't override. It seems to me, and I have yet to test this, that when I get the freeze, after the system has been off for a long while, the HDTV is already off when I start the PS3. I wonder if that has anything to do with it freezing? Perhaps I need to turn the TV ON first, and then the PS3.
I should also mention that the wifi I use in my barracks is one that auto logs a user off... randomly. That said, I can never stay on longer than 24 hours and if the system is off, the router will drop my isp as being logged on so I must ALWAYS log onto the internet after a restart. Could it be that that handshake dropping while the system is off cause the ps3 to freeze while loading (prior to displaying XMB)? Seems like a one sided handshake, and ps3 is trying to figure out **bleep** happened, but hangs. Is that feesible?
