OK, first sorry for yet another my ps3 is overheating thread. I found plenty but not one with my specific problem or good answers.
Two days ago my ps3 (fat 40gb model) shut off with a blinking red light. It wouldn't stay on long after that. I let it sit for an hour and turned it back on. It boots to the XMB. I can do everything for a little bit and then BAMMO shutdown with red blinking light. It sits on the tv stand in the open air. I vacuum the vents occasionally.
I took ti apart and blew all the dust out (I would characterize it as a moderate amount). Same thing. It runs for a few minutes and then shuts down blinking red.
The fan does not turn on high speed at any point. I did the fan thing with it off and touching the eject button. It powers on and runs the fan at high speed.
Any ideas what to try next? Do I **bleep** can the thing?
I have thermal paste. Thought about cleaning the heat sinks and applying some fresh paste. Thought about buying a power supply on ebay and giving that a shot. Saw the heat gun thing, but I'm not sure that applies to my situation. The thing that bugs me is if it's overheating why isn't it kicking the fan into high gear?
Thanks in advance for all your help!
