I'm having sort of the same problem. My new PS3 won't play Black-Ops, it shows the disk is in the system and everything but when I start the game, the screen goes black and it stays that way, I'm also able to eject the disk and it takes me back to the XMB menu as if nothing had happened. My PS3 works with other games like MW3 and Battlefield 3 but it just won't play Black-Ops.

This is how I came to fix this with Bops, first enter safe mode... from off with a red power light hold the power button down until it goes back to red and let go. Then hold down power button again until you a quick double beep. It'll say connect controller using usb cable and hit PS button... in this safe mode select option 3 restore file system. (anything else in safe mode could erase files off your system, safe mode 3 does not). After restoring the file system at the XMB (cross menue bar/ main menue) go to the game icon that looks like a controller. At the top of this column theres two icons that look like file folders, go into the game data utility (not the save data utility big no no) and look for B-ops highlight and hit the triangle button and choose delete. If multipul make sure your are in the game data utility and delete all B-ops files. This deletes game install not saved game data.... After, just restart your system and put in the game.

Try going to the "Game Data Utility" and deleting the data for COD Black Ops and see if it will recognize the game. If eveyrthing is working, it is a problem with the game, not the console.

mines the same reads every disc apart from black ops 2 just stoped reading disc its a joke whats going on there are so many with problems sony say say i have software prob didnt have no prob till i bought this game. its all kind of models as well new and old ******* joke some 1 should pay for it not me mine was fine.

uhh so my cussing order black ops 2,for me and she got the new ps3 with it. and ive been had the first ps3 since it came out and hers came with black ops2 and she gave me it blah blah. and so when i go to put it in the game starts but like after 5 or 10 min it will shut off on me. why help meeee i want to play black opssssssss

Hold power button until it turns on and off. Hold it again until you hear 3 beeps. Click option 3

black ops 2, correct? do you have the pre order content (nuketown 2025)? have you tried not downloading this content? does it seem to make a difference if so? didnt know if this might be the problem. i tried this with mine and the game itself started up. i am also awaiting the arrival of a replacement / upgrade hard drive. have you seen error 80010514 at all?
