One Beep and Powers Off

12 replies 1690 views Edited Jan 3, 2012

Hey, so I was sitting on my computer with my playstation sitting on in the background when out of the corner of my eye I saw my tv go into the "no signal detected" mode.  I looked at my ps3 and the power was completely off.  No lights no nothing.  So I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and the red standby light came on.  Awesome.  Then I clicked the power button, the blue light came on for just enough time for the system to beep once, and then the power goes completely off again, no lights whatsoever.  No matter what I do this continues to happen.

I've owned my ps3 for 13 months, so it is 1 month past it's warranty, is there anything I can do?  There's a place here in Toronto where they say they can repair it for up to $100 depending on what the problem is, but if I can do it myself I'd rather save the money if it's an easy fix.  I'm not the most handy person though.

Thanks

It could be a power supply problem. Check eBay for one from the same model and replace it yourself. They're relatively easy to replace.

I forgot to mention that if I unplug the power at the back and then plug it back in the red standby light turns on again, but if I try to press the power button it does the one beep and turns off.  Does that still sound like a power supply problem?

Yes. Do the lights flash when it turns off? If so waht color lights? Watch closely.

It turns green during the beep, then just turns off as soon as the beep is done.

It might not be the power cord though. Get another cord (not a cheap one)

and if it doesn't fix the problem then it's a hardware issue.

Do you have the 1st or 2nd gen Console? Those have a On-Off Switch and could be getting worn out.

Welcome to the PlayStation Community!

If you can post your PS3's model number, I can help you find a compatible power supply.
