So I just acquired an old ps3 from a friend who did a system restore before giving it to me. But now, it doesn't seem to read blu rays or games well at all. I tried spraying compressed air and vacuuming it out like another post said to, but it only helped the discs load for a couple minutes. My friend does have a dog, so it's possible the problem has to do with dog hair/dust in the system. It will load regular DVDs though. I could run another system restore or file restore, but would that really help it read blu rays and games? I'm trying to find anything I can do before I try to open it up. Oh and it's one of the old fat ps3's, with a new 320gb hard drive.
Thanks for the suggestion!!! Do you think it's necessary to clean evvverything? I opened it up and haven't found a whole bunch of dust. I haven't stripped it completely down to clean it inside and out. Did you mean everything or just the obvious and open parts?
Be careful not to disturb the mechanical parts of the BD Drive and be careful not to touch capacitors inside the Power Supply. Capacitors can hold a few hundred volts even when unplugged, and can give you a bad jolt if you accidentally touch them.
