Not able to play online with only one friend of mine. Any ideas?

I have a friend who lives about 5 miles away, and he is using his college's internet. I am living in a house 5 miles away. We've tried playing a few games (Borderlands and Little Big Planet) online, and even though our names show up to invite, we can't play together. Anyone have any ideas?

We CAN, however, play DC Universe together. Also, we've tried playing Borderlands while I was at his college with him, and we can do that via LAN, but not over the internet.

He has a friend whose closest guess is that the IP addresses are too similar. Thoughts?

Thanks!

Sounds like a NAT type disturbance to me. If one of you guys are NAT type 3 then that would explain the problem.

Go into your ps3's network settings and do a test; both of you. That will show your NAT type.

IF you or your friend are NAT type 3 then read these articles- http://www.fivestargamerz.com/f57/nat-type-2-tutorial-19566/

NAT type 3 will make it so you cant play online with certain friends and it will make it difficult to even be in ps3 chat rooms.
