I purchased a new wireless controller at best buy  and a playstation controller charger, I charged the controller and tried to turn on the ps3 to play a game and there was no response just the lights on the wireless controller  came  on and. Went off  . So then I pluged the USB  wire for the controller  to the ps3 and there was  nothing happening  . Not sure what to do  this is the first controller  I have purchased for my ps3  . I was going  to make it my primary controller  and the controller  that came with my ps3 I was going use  as  secondary for my nieces when the come over they can both play together . I hope it's just a simply solution .  Because I threw out the box  the wireless controller came in  I normally don't do that but I figured  it's  just a controller.

Did you try pressing the PS button while the controller was connected to the PS3 with USB (PS3 must be on for this)? When a friend comes over he always has to connect his controller with USB first, then disconnect the USB before it will work. Else it won't connect wirelessly. Everything should be working fine after doing that once though.
