I hadn't used this feature in 4-5 weeks, and when I tried to use it tonight, it refused to "see" my PS3.
I just spent 15 minutes on text chat with someone who had no idea what I was talking about. Had never even heard of this feature, to wit:
"I was looking into this for you and I am seeing that currently the ability to control Netflix from another app has not yet been added as a feature. We have seen a few customers take interest in wanting to have this as an option, so if you are OK with it, I will be more than happy to note your account to show you are interested in controlling your Netflix app by your phone. Will that be OK?"
I then called phone support, and spent nearly a half hour with them. She also started off telling me that this feature didn't exist, and it had to be a third party app (she mentioned Smartglass, which I'd never heard of). I explained that no, it did exist, and that I had used it extensively in the past, just not for the past month or so, and today it just didn't work. I had to explicity say, "No, I'm looking at your Netflix app, produced by Netflix, Inc. on the app store. And I'm looking at a support page for this feature on your site, support.netflix.com. It does exist."
After putting me on hold a couple times, she finally agreed with me that it did exist, but that they didn't currently have any further troubleshooting beyond what was on the support.netflix.com page. A couple more times on hold to talk to her "research team," and I was informed that this was the first they'd heard of this issue, and that they would be using my account as an example of it not working.
She couldn't give me a timeline, but assured me that they would be working on it, and I should try the app again in a few days, and check back with them "later."
I suppose we'll see how that works out...
FYI, I saw that the Netflix app for Android updated on July 22, with the "What's New" section simply saying "• Playback improvements
