I have had 2 ps3's and never had a problem until now. I bought Uncharted 2 and did the firmware upgrade to 3.01 and now controllers go unresponsive. I emailed Sony's tech support and they sent me a page full of links but none of them worked.
I tried Backing Up then deleting any recent update and reinstalled 3.01 from disk, that didn't work. I tried doing a file system rebuild, that didn't work either. The unit basically works for the first 10-20 minutes at that point all controllers/remote go unresponsive. The only way to recover from this is to use the power button on the front of the system to turn it off.
The thing I find strange is that once the power light is red I can press the PS button on the controller or remote and it fires right back up. You would think if it was a problem with the controllers/remote that the system would have to be manually turned back on and the controllers or remote forced to be rediscovered
This really sux for gameplay, but even worse when playing bluray or streaming video from ext drive or home server, when the system looses the controllers the video pauses, stutters and drops sound.
Mine might as well be dead.
I think this is a way to sell the new slim system and it is workin. I don't think there will be a fix for this until after Christmas

It's the class action lawsuit against Sony. I hope we win.

... and one here in Canada....it was easy to register for, just followed the link and submitted my info. Now when Sony gets held accountable to the courts I'll be part of the user base that gets my money back.

This is a video of data being read via Ubuntu 8.10. This disc would freeze or not be usable through the playstation XMB due to bugs in the 3.0/3.01 firmware.
Next, because somebody is bound to complain, I will post a full video going from a disc error from the xmb, booting into linux, then showing that the data is still readable.
More people need to be reporting their story to the BBB and FTC! Discussion threads don't amount to anything without action.
