Hi PlayStation Community,

 

This is the FAQ for the PS3 section of the Support forums. This post is meant to answer basic and commonly asked questions about the PS3 itself including hardware and video/audio hook ups. For convenience, we've created a table of contents that will take you directly to specific sections to help make finding answers easier. PS3 HARDWARE ISSUES

 

 

My PS3 lights are blinking! What does it mean?

When you scroll down you can see a variety of options in addition to corresponding lights on which model PS3 you own.

PS3 Power Problem Troubleshooting

 

If your PS3 is not turning on, there may be issues with your power supply. Be sure the power cord is securely connected and that there are no frays or tears on the wire.

PS3 Safe Mode

 

Safe mode is a feature for starting the PS3 with the "minimum required functionality" if the system is no longer able to start up normally. By starting up the system in safe mode, then executing a menu option, you may be able to eliminate some start up issues.

Troubleshoot DUALSHOCK 3/SIXAXIS Controllers

 

If you are having issues with your Dualshock/SixAxis controllers, see this page:

A common trick to fix controller issues is to ensure no other controllers or accessories are plugged in/turned such as wireless Blu-ray remotes which can sometimes throw off Dualshock/SixAxis controllers. Turn those off and see if your controller is still having issues.

PS3 Data Transfer Utility

 

With the PS3 Data Transfer Utility you may now transfer data that is saved on one PS3™ system's hard disk to another PS3 system's hard disk with an ethernet cable.  Please refer to this link for data transfer steps:

PS3 Backup Utility

 

The PS3 system's Backup Utility feature can be used to create a back-up of all data from the PS3 system's Hard Disk Drive (HDD) on a removable storage media (such as, USB storage device, MemoryStick™, SD Memory Card, or CompactFlash®).
