this is what i want because i like the color. i live in Los Angeles. what should i be concerned with buying the asian version

You won't be able to play region-locked North American Blu-ray or DVD videos on an asian PS3.  You won't be able to run region-locked PS3 games either, but there are very few of those.  In general you will be able to use almost any PS3 game or add-on that you could run on a North American PS3, as well as PS1 Classics, PS2 Classics, and Minis.

Japan gets a lot of console color options that aren't available in North America.  In Japan a lot of people want their electronics to match the decor of their home, or their preferred accessory colors (for portable consoles).

That's nice.  If I was told that I could have any color I wanted as long as it was black I think I'd freak out.  Well, I'm just kidding, black isn't all that bad and it really does depend on the decor, you have a point there.
