Apple Earphones with Mic on PS3?

6 replies 9872 views Edited Jan 4, 2013
Does anyone know if Apple Earphones with Mic will work on the PS3? I am looking for a more comfortable way to play games and chat online (Eg. Call of Duty Black Ops 2) and I think Apple Earphones with Mic would be perfect. I don't want to use bluetooth as the sound quality is worse. I'm looking for a WIRED option such as the Apple Earphones. I don't like actual headphone headsets such as the Turtle Beach P11. It's like wearing earmuffs while playing. Too heavy, too hot, and just uncomfortable. I am currently using the Logitech USB Vantage Headset and it is just simply uncomfortable as it makes my ears and head hurt. Here it is on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Vantage-Headset-PlayStation-PlayStation3-3/dp/B00008KXG5/ref=sr_1_1?s... I think the most comfortable headset would simply be some cheap, light Apple Earphones. I was thinking of getting a USB to 3.5 mm Jack but don't want to waste money on it if it won't work.

Any standard USB headset will work with the PS3 for chat audio only.  You won't get any game audio in the Apple earphones if they are only connected to the USB port. As those earphones go in both ears, you won't be able to hear the game audio very well; which will be disadvantageous in a game like Black Ops 2.  That is why earbuds are generally not used with the PS3.

Apple headphones with mic. Connector Type 1 x headset ( mini-phone 3.5 mm 4-pole )

4 pole 3.5mm headset connection won't work with 3.5 mm to USB converters.

With out another converter first.

Lindy iPhone to PC Audio Adapter Cable - Audio adaptor - Female Mini-phone 3.5 mm 4-pole to M ini-phone stereo 3.5 mm, Mini-phone 3.5mm

http://www.amazon.com/GTMax-Headset-adapter-Smartphone-Converts/dp/B008HP0OKQ/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF...

You then plug the 3.5mm into the 3.5mm to USB..

Thank you for you help.  I found some stuff on eBay since they are cheap.

Would these work?

This......http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-A-to-3-5mm-Barrel-Connector-Jack-DC-Power-Retractable-Cable-F-Cell-P...

And then this.....http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-5mm-Male-To-Female-Audio-Extension-Cable-10FT-Long-/150914832564?pt=US_Aud...

And then my apple earphones of course.

I'm only looking for chat audio only.  I just use speakers for game sound.  Sorry for not clarifying that on my original post.

And I don't think wearing apple earphones would block out much sound, if any, from the game on my speakers.  Not like apple earphones are noise cancelling or anything.

If that isn't an issue, then the USB headset adapter should be all that you need.

So I ended up getting this usb sound card...

http://www.amazon.com/Syba-USB2-0-Adapter-Stereo-Output/dp/B001KT80IO/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=136019...

I plugged my apple earphones into the micropone input of this adapter and oddly, it picked up sound when I talked into the EAR PIECE...NOT THE MICROPHONE.  That's kind of weird since I figured the ear piece is made for sound to come out of it, not for sound to go in it.

Anyway, that didn't work.

Still no answer to this yet.

GraphiteGB, seems like you know, but I just don't understand what you are talking about.  Can you provide links to the pictured items so I know where to buy them?....or just say more about the pictures you listed?
