so i just bought a new hardrive, and after inserting it into my ps3 and formatting, i checked system setting to see if it installed properly and out of 320 it says i have 260gb..... im not worried, but i am a bit annoyed.
Be annoyed, the world needs more noyeds. Noyeds can be very rare.
Seriously, though, all hard drives actual capacity is less than what is on the box, and the operating system for the PS3 takes some space, don't remember how much.

The drive may have some bad cylinders on it that were not used. You weren't going to get more than 289GB anyway. A couple of GB are used by the file system, and the PS3 System reserves some of the formatted space for use by the Backup and Data Transfer Utilities; as well as using some for the System software itself.
