It may be the way that your formatting to fat32. Try using guiformat and select the highest allocation unit you can. I think it's 64 something.

As you know I was affected by the bug in 3.56 and I am unable to use my system because it has 3.56v1 on it. I have found a little guide and if I understand it correctly I can take my hard drive and put it into another PS3 using 3.56v1, format it and put it back in my system to get it working. My question is once I format my drive in the other system will that systems hard drive have to be re-formatted as well or will it just be able to be plugged in and work like before? Also I am on a Slim model with the model number CECH-2001A
Here are the two guides I have found...

| Well I got mine to work...finally after reading some of your suggestions. I'll recap what I did for anyone else struggling. I just got a new 160 GB to replace my blinking red light 60GB. Put the 60 GB HDD in the new PS3 to wipe it clean. After that, I put the 160GB back in and got the 8002f2c5 error. YIKES! So, I put the 60GB back in, downloaded the update via flashdrive on a PC, and then reinstalled the update with the 60GB still in the new PS3. Took out the 60GB and put back in the 160GB with the flashdrive in the USB port. I am currently able to load up the new update and the new PS3 looks like it's going to be back in action with the new 160GB HDD. Thanks guys, and good luck to everyone else |

| Hi, I just fixed this problem with 3 ps3's this week and I decided to make a tutorial how to fix it. I-Phrases:- Yeah i'll make some phrases so i'll write better and faster 3.56v1 = this gonna refer to the original 3.56 wich is bugged a little bit 3.56v2 = this gonna refer to the FIXED 3.56 which is also called 3.56 version 2 and it is the re-release of 3.56 mule = the ps3 that is ok offed = the corrupted ps3 II-Requirements:- This is what you will need to do it 2 PS3's = yeah two one that is the corrupted one and the other is ok a screwdriver = Duh.... a flash memory atleast 1 GB III-Downloads:- this is the tricky part cuz you will need to be at least a member in this forum PS3 Firmware - PS3 NEWS - PlayStation 3 News - PS3 Forums - PS3 Downloads for the updates downloads IV-Steps:- 1- download the 3.56 update (the one that don't have "Fixed" after it) 2- put the update file on the flash drive in this directory X:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP 3- Swap hdds (replace the hdd in the mule with the one in the offed) 4- plug the flash drive in the mule and install the update 5- after installation verify that the system is working (on the mule) 6- Swap hdds again(this time put them in the original ps3's) 7- run the offed and if it still showing the same message try installing the update on the offed or press home button 8- if it all worked go to system update and update (it will install the 3.56v2) to get it safe 9- enjoy and remember after i am an a member i'll make hacks and jailbreaks |
I want to know if anyone has tried something similar to this and it actually worked. The people that posted guides said it worked on there systems and a few other people posted success but I just want to make sure I will not screw up my friends ps3.
Thanks!!!!

What I'd do, and again, no promises, is to upgrade their harddrive with the thumdrive first. Then everything should be on the same page

After much reading here it seems evident that an update isn't going to fix this.
In my case I wanted to upgrade my hd from the old 80 to a 160. Fw 3.56 no hacks.
I was unable to use the 160g hd but 80 was still good. Unfortunately the system formatted the 80, now it says it cannot recognize the old hard drive. I even tried the disk based method, no joy.
After all this my ps3 still will not work, cannot upgrade fw, or go backwards.
Last resort is to have Sony fix it, but since it seems it is their fault, the fw upgrade was buggy they should fix it.
Yet since it is out of warranty, they are not legally obligated to fix it.
So if anyone has any other ideas, I am listening, otherwise I will send it in when I can.
Wrong? Perhaps, but since when has a business ever been morally right?

Are there any updates on the 8002F225/8002F2C5/8002F2B5 HDD errors caused by the 3.56 v1 update?
I'm sick and tired of waiting for Sony to fix this...something they caused in the first place and haven't taken any responsibility for it!
My PS3 has been out since February, and I refuse to pay $100 for them to fix something they caused or spend on a new console when mine was perfectly fine until this error happened.
