I was a little scared due to reading everybodys post. But I ordered a 500GB Seagate harddrive and installed it yesterday without a glitch. I heard that Sony ent out a different version of 3.56, so I first searched for updates on the PS3 and it found the 3.56 and installed it again on my system. Then I went to the playstation site and downloaded the 3.56 on my jumpdrive. The key is to save the file on your drive just like they tell you in the instructions. My PS3 was one of the ones that was supposed to be affected, but all is ok.
Most people here that still have problems formatted their HDD with ofw 3.56.1, which means they can no longer update or play their console. The only fix so far with these conditions are to have your PS3 serviced by $ony.
Are you serious we have to send our ps3's to sony for repair for something they did that bricked our systems? Cause mine is out of a warranty and paying them 100 bucks to fix their error is outrageous....I thought a new firmware would fix this sort of thing and get our ps3's working again..?
Did you go to the system recovery menu and formated the new drive?
To do this 1)Turn off power leaving the red power light on.
2)Press power button continuously, let the ps3 start up than shut down
3)Take your finger off the power button
4)Again press power button continously until you hear two quick beeps, immediately take your finger off the button
5)The screen will tell you to hook up the wired controller,do that
7)In the menu,select #3 Restore File System
8)Finally,you might have to reinstall the firmwre update with your usb stick
yup tried all that jazz and nothing, once you put on the usb stick it flashes to recognize theres a flash drive and about 5-6 seconds later the usb flashes and the corruption error so many of us have comes up on the screen....they need to hurry up with a fix cause so many good games were missing out on as we speak....
heres a little quirky idea, what if i took my new HD go to a friends house who has a working ps3 with the 3.56 v2 firmware and have his system format my HD and then come back to my ps3 with the formatted HD and install the HD and run the 3.56 firmware from a usb flashdrive, would the fact that the HD has a taste of 3.56 and using the 3.56 firmware from the flashdrive get my ps3 running again from the 3.56 data corrupted issue...?
You don't need to format the hard drive through his machine. You can use a program like like guiformat
to do the hardrive from the pc. the biggest deal is updating your friends ps3 by thumbdrive because the auto download doesn't do everything. Then take it and try it with the same thumb drive
