Other OS option is gone. Never saw the appeal anyway. I bought a PLAYStation 3 to play games. I installed it once to see what it was like. Waste of space. It was a pain in the ass to switch back and forth between the System OS and GNU/Linux. I would never sacrifice online play for something that isn't needed on a game console
It's frustrating now to hear all the haters ... it'll be funny next week when it becomes old news.
OtherOS was always a "on the side" thing, it was never to be supported, and if someone was going to hack it (yes I read he was not going to pirate ... but it would have opened the door for someobe else to), then I understand it had to be removed.
I bought (like someone else here mentioned) a PlayStation for games ... I want sony to concentrate on the gaming side of it. It's kind of ironic in a way, at first, we complained to Sony about them not concentrating on games for the PS3 ... now were complaining about them concentrating on making the PS3 un-hackable, which in turn protects someone from being able to more directly hack PSN, my biggest worry.
Either way, updated, done with, I'll be playing games =)
This update doesn't make anything unhackable, it just screws over honest users - in fact I bet the "challenge" put forth by Sony will result in a hacked system faster.. then how stupid will you feel for believing SONY they just want to "protect" you? What they really want is to be able to control your hardware, even after they sell it to you, but if they really wanted to do that, they should lease them
But then no one would even touch them
Kind of underhanded, and immoral, but I guess you don't care as long as you play your games right?
