Why would it cost more to make a memory stick then it is to put the same tech into a device?

Cause to attach memory to a board, they just solder it to the device.

To make it into a memory card, they have to use smaller components, more rugged circuitry to withstand being outside the device, and extra components to serve as the interface with the device

Like say putting the same tech on a simple thin board and just slap conneters to it and then cover it all up with plastic and stamp the logo on it and put it in a cheap plastic package? i dont think so.

Dont matter if the memory is internal or external, they are made the same way and this is why we have to be careful handling the memory sticks outside of the device we put the memory stick in. All a memory stick is, is simple memory soldered to a board that has connecters and covered in cheap plastic, some might say the same thing about the psp go.

No, they aren't. That was my point.

They are made completely different. They aren't even the same flash chips

Are you sure, did you pop open a psp go yet and see? I dont think so. First off we need to know if the internal memory is going to be seperate from the seperate memory stick when in use, or if the stick and the internal memory are going to be linked. If linked they will have to be of the same type of memory to work together. And if so that will mean the internal memory will be made from the same memory flash chips as what the memory M2 cards will be using for proper interfacing with the psp go. And since sony makes the flash chips then it saves them money to make sure things work together....maybe this is why they chose to go with the M2 flash chips for the psp go. But we wont know what sony has decided untill some website buys a psp go and tears it apart.

Those that paid $100 actually paid $250, just substituting $150 for games. It isn't actually much cheaper.

Yes. Sony will use bigger chips in the Go since they have more space to work with. And bigger would make them cheaper.

No, they will only have to be the same speed, not the same size.

And since different memory sticks have different speeds, that's not possible.

No, they will only have to be the same speed, not the same size.

And since you keep claiming "you dont know", you cant keep telling people they are wrong.

Internal memory and memory in cards are not the same flash chips, they are not made the same, they don't cost the same to make as a result. If they were made the same, they would be the same. They would just have internal memory stick slots and plug cards into it instead of soldering the chips directly to the board
