Ok so i though it was for the internet lol before i had 1.5 when it came out, now i have 2.71 on one and 3.80 on the other, lol i remember using the infra red for hombrew, i bet you can somehow attach it to wii.

I think Sony was going to use it but the Hackers got to it first and Sony didn't want people to think they copied the hackers. iR Shell FTW

Yes it can be used, but I cannot say it here. SONY never utilized the IR Port which is why they removed it in the Slim.
