Okay, so here is the problem: I have had this big guy for at least six or so years, I stopped using it back in 2009 but got back into it before the end of the year; the thing is that it can no longer read UMD, I do realize at this point that I need to fix that, however, I found a better option at playing games by downloading them. I did not have any trouble with the downloaded games I got, however, just a little after Christmas(of 2010) I started noticing problems with them(I had bought a 4GB prior, at least two or one month an a half before).
Games like Spyro the Dragon (PSone download), and Dissidia would get into the habit of 'freezing' forcing me to shut down the PSP and turn it on again. Days later, it would happen again, and it got more common, but the games could run fine. This however, got out of hand when I purchased Echoes; the game took almost thirty minutes in the loading screen, if I remember, and I was only able to play it once. This problem stuck its ugly head on the Pacman game I downloaded (never seemed to run) I have been noticing that some games freeze up in certain parts, and play up to a certain point before they just freeze up; now, I cannot play games above the 100 mb mark, except the two games mentioned, which are less than 30 mb...the demos sometimes work or not. I do realize this might be a technical problem, but I'm not too sure, it plays music and videos just fine, and it has no problem with pictures and that new comic feature; I know how to use Media Go, and my PSP does recognize the games, and I have noticed that when selecting a game, usually you hear the game's theme or something of the sort, but in the games that dont work, excluding the PSone downloads, the music wont work. (A talltell sign that the game will get stuck on the loading screen or not load at all).
Any assistance you might provide will be helpful.

I know it has been a while, but I had a similar problem as you when downloading the free games from the welcome back program. The first game I tried to download was lbp for psp, but it was downloading really slow directly onto my psp. I found the download manager media go for windows while struggling to get the game downloaded (that was a mess at the time due to psn bugs). I finally got the game to download off of media go and simultaneously downloaded the resident evil 2 psone game that I had been playing on my roommate's ps3. I waited on the second welcome back game because I wanted to make sure everything was working (after so many bugs) so I loaded the game onto my psp memory stick and started the it up. I was relieved as it showed up on the memory card and showed the psp logo as I started it, but then nothing else happened. The screen was blank for about 20 or 30 seconds before I tried pressing the home screen. Nothing happened. I eventually had to restart the psp and I tried it again with the same results. I then tried the re2 game. Same thing, didn't load. I then downloaded my second free game, mod nation racers for psp, directly to the psp. This worked absolutely fine, while the other games still did not.
I gave up on it for a while until recently. I tried starting the games for the hell of it and they actually loaded. I had not touched my psp for 6 months (about a week ago). Now, a week later, the problem is showing itself again and now I'm pissed.
It seems to be a compatibility issue between the psp 1000 and media go transfering games. I contacted sony about it and they don't know why its happening either. You could try contacting them and being really assertive, but I am just gonna give up and wait until it starts working again by itself LOL.
